Snehesh Nag is a performing sitar artist practicing the rich musical tradition of Hindustani classical music. He has trained with his father Pandit Sugato Nag and legend of the sarod, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, and plays a unique blend of primarily two gharanas (school of music), namely the Senia Shahjahanpur and Enayatkhani gharana. He currently also learns from sarod maestro Pandit Prattyush Banerjee, an exponent of the Senia Shahjahanpur gharana, and has previously learned tabla from Farrukhabad gharana exponent Pandit Tanmoy Bose, and vocal from Shri Sandip Nag.

Snehesh has performed extensively in India, the US, Australia, and Canada, and is the recipient of multiple accolades such as the National Scholarship, Government of India and the Acharya Allauddin Khan Memorial Award. He has been featured in various media outlets such as SBS Australia and The Hindu, where his playing has been addressed as one that blends a lot of “emotion, surprise elements, and aesthetic touches…all streaming out of a thinking mind, far too matured for his age.” Known for his dynamic and soulful playing, Snehesh has played with tabla legends such as Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and the late Pandit Subhankar Banerjee.

As an educator, Snehesh has been teaching privately for many years and frequently conducts workshops. He has worked with Baltimore Symphony’s OrchKids program and conducted workshops at places such as Strathmore and Silkroad’s Global Musicians Workshop, where he has expanded upon both Indian classical repertoire, as well as tools to converse with other musical traditions.
